Taizhou University International Student Scholarship Policies (Trial)

Chapter 1 General Principles

Article 1  In order to attract more outstanding international students to study at the university, form an international student scale effect and further improve the management level and education quality of international students, the Policies are formulated in light of the actual situation of the school.

Article 2  International Student Scholarships are awarded to foreign students who are applying for or have received degree or non-degree education at our school.

 

Chapter 2 Scholarship Categories

Article 3  According to the student categories, scholarships are divided into degree seeking students scholarships and language students scholarships.

(1) Scholarships for degree seeking students : Offered to those who study for a bachelor's degree, with the general term of 4 academic years (5 academic years for particular majors).

(2) Scholarships for language students (including pre-graduates for degree seeking education): Offered to those who study Chinese language and culture, with the term of one academic year.

 

Chapter 3 Scholarship Levels

Article 4  Scholarships for degree seeking students are divided into 3 levels.

         First-class scholarship: 18,000 yuan per person per academic year.

         Second-class scholarship: 15,000 yuan per person per academic year.

         Third-class scholarship: 12,000 yuan per person per academic year.

Article 5  Scholarships for language students is awarded to non-degree seeking international students (language students, pre-graduates for degree seeking education) with one level of 10,000 yuan per person per academic year.

Article 6  To form the scale effect of international students, based on the actual situation of different countries and regions, “one country, one way” and “one region, one way” practice is adopted to flexibly adjust the scholarship standards.

 

Chapter 4 Application Requirements

Article 7  Scholarship Application Requirements

(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport who maintain an amicable attitude towards China and be in good health.

(2) Applicants must respect the faculty and staff, keep a harmonious relationship with classmates, and have good performance and attendance at the school with no violation of the school discipline and Chinese laws & regulations.

(3) Applicants’ academic performance (or GPA) must be at the top of the grade or the class or they achieve an excellent HSK score.

(4) Applicants should not be beneficiaries of Chinese government scholarships or other types of scholarships in the school.

(5) Applicants must obtain an academic certificate equivalent to the level of Chinese senior high school.

Article 8  The application materials are as follows:

(1) "Taizhou University International Student Scholarship Application Form".

(2) A notarized highest academic certificate and a copy of the academic transcript (for new students).

(3) "Physical Examination Record for Foreigner" (printed by the Chinese Health and Quarantine Department).

(4) A copy of the passport.

 

Chapter 5 Basis for Selection

Article 9  The International School shall examine the qualifications and application conditions of the applicants, and submit the list of qualified applicants and application materials to the Scholarship Selection Committee for deliberation.

Article 10  The International School and the relevant secondary schools compose the Scholarship Selection Committee to examine the materials in accordance with the principles of openness, fairness and impartiality and determine the list of exhibitioners. The leader who is in charge of International School shall be responsible for the examination and approval. The results will be announced on the website of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office for three days. If there are no objections, the school will award the scholarships to the exhibitioners.

Article 11  Scholarship applicants are assessed on the basis of “academic performance”, “class attendance” and “daily performance”. The score for “academic performance” is calculated according to the “credit weighted average score” of the test scores in the cultivation programs and course setting of different majors, accounting for 50% of the total score; “class attendance” is calculated by percentage based on the attendance rate of the selected courses, accounting for 30% of the total score; "daily performance" is evaluated on the basis of "compliance with Chinese laws & regulations and school discipline (including the construction of excellent dormitories), participation and award-winning in the cultural and sports activities at the school and provincial level, accounting for 20% of the total score.

Article 12  Scholarships shall be included in the annual budget of the school and the secondary school. The percentage of the award categories shall be planned according to the budget allocated by the school in the year.

 

Chapter 6 Principles of Rewards and Punishments

Article 13 Ten points for publishing one academic paper as the first author on core journals.

Article 14 Five points for each academic paper published in other journals.

Article 15 The “attendance rate” score is calculated by percentage based on the attendance rate of the selected courses. Students shall be disqualified if their attendance rate is lower than 70% per semester.

Article 16 Students shall be disqualified for the year if they receive warning, severe warning, demerit-recording, disciplinary probation in their “daily performance”.

Chapter 7 Supervision and Management

Article 17  Scholarships are administered and distributed by the International School.

Article 18 Scholarships are earmarked for specified purposes only and are subject to audit supervision.

Chapter 8 Supplementary Articles

Article 19 These Policies shall come into force on June 1, 2019. Where there is any conflict between these Policies and any previous provisions, these Policies shall prevail.

Article 20 These Policies shall be interpreted by the International School.
